The discipline of grassland science at China Agricultural University was established in 1956. The Grassland Research Institute was founded in 1995, followed by the establishment of the Department of Grassland Science in 2000. In 2007, it was rated as a national key discipline, and in 2017, it was selected as a discipline inthe "Double First-ClassInitiative". It received an A+ rating in the fourth and fifth rounds of discipline evaluations conducted by the Ministry of Education.
The College of Grassland Science and Technology was established In December 2018. The undergraduate major in grassland science was selected as a national first-class major in 2019. The college boasts national first-level key disciplines, including undergraduate majors in grassland science and turf science and engineering, as well as authorizedmaster's and doctoral degree programsin grassland science and a postdoctoral program.
The college has over 100employees, including 24 professors, 2 researchscientists, 27associate professors. Additionally, 32 enterprise executives and senior engineers are employed as part-time supervisors for professional degrees.There are four departments in the College, including Department of grassland resources and ecology, Department of grassland production and utilization, Department of lawn and environmental engineering, and Department of breeding and seed science.
The college has the Grassland Ecosystem National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station in Guyuan, Hebei, and nine provincial/ministerial-level research platforms. Among them, the Forage and Turfgrass Seed Quality Testing Center (MOA) is the only grass seed quality testing laboratory in China recognized by the International Seed Testing Association.The collegeis affiliated with the secretariat of the "Chinese Grassland Society," a national first-level academic society, andthe secretariats of four second-level committees, as well asthe editorial officeof the Chinese core journal "Acta Agrestia Sinica".
