Research Interests
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is one of the most important forage legume crops for hay
and silage production worldwide. It is suggested that alfalfa was cultivated 8000 to
9000 years ago, resulting in a multitude of alfalfa germplasm that were adapted to
various climate environments. A better understanding of alfalfa genetics and genomics
will advance breeding varieties with improved yield, quality, and stress tolerance. We
will combine multi-omics methods to identify genes controlling important traits
(yield, quality, and stress tolerance) and to apply them into the alfalfa breeding, which
will facilitate alfalfa germplasm enhancement and benefit alfalfa production.
